Director of Water Polo
We are extremely lucky to have Director of Water Polo and Coach Ian MacCallum. Ian joined the University of St Andrews as Director of Water Polo in 2007. He had extensive international career playing for Scotland and Great Britain, including competing for GB in three consecutive European Championship Finals and earning 2 National Player of the year titles. Ian has continued his success as a coach and in addition to his Head Coach duties at the University of St Andrews he is also the Head Coach of the Great Britain Junior Women’s Team and previous Head Coach of the Scottish Men’s National Team and Scottish Universities Men’s Team. After 8 consecutive winning seasons at St Andrews, including two BUCS Trophy titles, final four appearances at the BUCS Finals and 3 Scottish Cup wins, Ian continues to strive to make St Andrews the top Water Polo University programme in the UK. Ian is a current Board Director at Scottish Swimming and a member of the Scottish Water Polo Committee.
Ali Campbell is now in his second season as Head Coach of the Saints Mens Team. Ali has had an illustrious playing career, representing both the Scottish and Great Britain Mens National teams with distinction. Ali is one of the best young Coaches in the country and in addition to his duties at St Andrews is currently the Head Coach of the Scottish junior Men and the Scottish Students Mens Team.S&C Coach
Strength & Conditioning Coach
Allan has worked within the University’s Department of Sport and Exercise for several years now and brings a wealth of practical training experience to the table. Having competed in several different sports (including football, kickboxing and triathlon) he understands what it takes to compete at a high level.Over the years Allan has picked up many fitness qualifications and has several years experience working as a Personal Trainer and Gym Instructor, before moving into a more sports performance based role. Allan has been an Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC), with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association since 2008 and continues to attend all the workshop and conferences available, to ensure he remains at the cutting edge of applied research. As well as his work for the University, Allan also works part-time with the Scottish Institute of Sport, as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, as well as working with Dundee United Football Club – providing both field based, and gym based strength and conditioning support.
